What is the air pressure at sea level? What is the air pressure in a 747 at 35,000 feet?
And what is the air pressure inside a spacesuit during an EVA? The real question I have is...What is the minimum amount of air pressure on our bodies that is required to keep us alive?
Normal air pressure at sea level is 101.3 kPa or 14.7 psi.
Inside an airliner, the pressurization is designed to keep cabin pressure to the equivalent of 8000 ft, that would be around 75% of what it is on the ground.
In the ISS, the pressure is kept about the same as the one we have at sea level, but that pressure would cause the space suit to behave like balloon at the joint, greatly reducing the flexibility at the joints, most notable the fingers. So, the shits are pressurized with pure oxygen, at about 1/3 the pressure; so as to keep the oxygen partial pressure at a comfortable level.
Hypoxia is considered lethal when the oxygen partial pressure drops below 5.3 kPa (it is around 22 kPa at sea level). The other gasses of the air are not really important, at least for short duration; unless someone was to go though a fast decompression, as nitrogen dissolved in the blood would boil away in the veins and arteries, with dangerous and possibly lethal effects (the bends; decompression sickness)
